I have WinTV to record over the air programs. How can I then use my recordings with my Mac and an Apple TV?

Using WinTV on my PC, I have tried recording as .mp4 but for some reason my Mac can not read what WinTV has recorded as an MP4 file.

What is the correct way to record OTA broadcasts from WinTV in order to watch them later from my Mac on my Apple TV?

  1. Assuming you’re using Hauppage equipment, (they typically include WinTV with the OEM products), I would recommend switching over to Kodi for the HTPC frontend or going with Plex.

**edit**. Emby is also another third party option to manage your HTPC.

  2. plex will serve up all your content to all your devices. Alternatively, you can use mcebuddy to automatically remove commercials and convert to a more friendly apple tv format.
